Earth Hour activities went off without a hitch on Saturday 25 March at the Rural North West Kent group of churches, as members of the community joined them for a range of creative and reflective events taking place throughout the day across the churches.

Earth Hour is a global initiative inviting people to switch off and give an 'hour for earth' by spending 60 minutes doing something good for the planet - it can often include switching off lights or technology for an hour too.

The Rev Jayne Shillito, Curate for the RNWK Churches said:

"God blessed us with sunshine as we made an outdoor Easter garden, painted watercolour landscapes, and enjoyed a nature walk in beautiful countryside. Interactive prayer stations, including one inspired by Rochester's Peace Dove installation, were available to visit throughout the day."

In the afternoon, creative participants inspired by nature turned their hand to pottery, and the day culminated in a beautiful 'lights-out' service in St Peter and St Paul Church at Ash.

Jayne added:

"The idea for 'Earth Hour' activities came from our decision to hold a lights-out service to raise awareness of climate change.  We wanted to provide accessible opportunities too for all ages to get involved and to join us in our commitment to protect and treasure God's amazing creation."
