Parishioner Richard gets ready to read the Bible

Parishioners at St John’s Church Hildenborough are attempting to read the entire Bible aloud in Church throughout Holy Week.

They began at 1pm, after their Palm Sunday services, and aim to finish on Good Friday at 11:30am with sessions running from 6am to midnight each day (service times excluded).

The church is open throughout.

The Rev Tim Saiet said, “We are hoping that the whole community can get involved and anyone of any age is welcome to read for one or more of our 15-minute slots.

"In our church’s near 180-year history the Bible will have been read aloud many times over, but never in one go. It is a challenge we are excited to be taking on in the run-up to Easter!”

The marathon reading is expected to take 80 hours and will require many participants if St John’s Church is to be successful in completing its goal in time.

Commenting on Facebook, Kate said: "I really would encourage people to do this, it’s very powerful reading God’s word out loud."

The church is posting regular updates on how they are doing on their Facebook page.
