Friday 7th February 2020 20:00Economics of Fairtrade at St Luke SevenoaksThe “Food for Thought” talks are designed to offer the audience a clear, unbiased and accurate description of the subject matter and then allow the audience an opportunity to discuss the subject in small groups, leading to feedback in plenary of each group’s consensus view. A successful outcome to the evening would be that the audience leave satisfied that they have learned something (or had previous knowledge affirmed) and stimulated to act upon what they have heard. Ian and Humphrey will be describing the rationale behind the creation and the beneficial effect of The Fairtrade Foundation that works to empower disadvantaged producers in developing countries by tackling injustice in conventional trade. We could not have better guides to the subject. Ian has been involved with the Fairtrade movement for over 30 years since joining Oxfam Trading as Head of Marketing in 1986. Since then he has been involved in selling fairly-traded handcrafts; researching the potential of the Fairtrade Mark; being CEO for 11 years of the Fairtrade Foundation and then 4 years as its Head of Global Strategy & Governance. Today he is an elected Board Member at Fairtrade International and supports producer networks in Africa, Asia and Latin America. At home, he chairs a CAB service and sits on the Board of an NHS Clinical Commissioning Group. Humphrey was Marketing & Sales Director for Cafedirect, the leading Fairtrade hot drinks company, and worked with Ian at the Fairtrade Foundation to promote the growth of Fairtrade products.
