Friday 10th January 2020 19:30Rights for children in IndiaThe talk addresses an important and topical subject about how the world sees the rights of children. The Speaker is Peter Ashwell, a member of St Luke’s church in Sevenoaks, who visited India in August. Peter Ashwell will be recounting what he found out during and after his trip to India last August. He will talk about that country’s 472 million children by spelling out their four basic rights – survival, development, protection and participation - and describing the challenges and dangers confronting them and how society and the government are trying to mitigate the risks and meet their objectives. The talk will describe the work done by the charity that Peter visited in Chennai and by other organisations to empower the most deprived sections of society - the pavement dwellers – and their children. There will be a retiring collection for Karunalaya. For more information contact Peter Ashwell 01732 461087 The “Food for Thought” talks are designed to offer the audience a clear, unbiased and accurate description of the subject matter and then allow the audience an opportunity to discuss the subject in small groups, leading to feedback in plenary of each group’s consensus view. A successful outcome to the evening would be that the audience leave satisfied that they have learned something (or had previous knowledge affirmed) and stimulated to act upon what they have heard.
