CYP courses and training

As a team we want to encourage and develop the highest standards of working practice in all those who work with children and young people in parishes across the Diocese, as we seek to grow younger and more diverse.

The Children, Young People and Families (CYPF) Mission and Ministry Development Team has a developed a wide-ranging programme of training and courses to encourage and support churches and individuals in their ministry with children, young people and families.

Some are delivered in person over several weeks, some are online, some can be made more bespoke.

There is a range of expertise and knowledge within the team who can be contacted for support and advice:

Children's Ministry Essentials

This is a course for those who want a better understanding of ministry with children whether you have been doing it for a long time or only just begun. This is an online course of 10 sessions which you take at your own pace.

It is expected that each module will take you approximately 2 hours to complete plus additional time for extension work depending on your chosen engagement.

Youthscape Essentials

An exciting course to equip and strengthen anyone volunteering with young people in churches and community projects. The topics are divided into Insights into Young People, Skills for Youth Work and Developing Character.

It makes no assumptions about experience, age or background. It’s accessible to those starting out as volunteers, and deep enough to stretch those who have been working alongside young people for longer.

It is run over 10 sessions covering 30 topics including: Insights into Young People, Skills for Youth Work and Developing Character.

This course will be facilitated by Jen Coleman, our Diocesan Adviser for Youth, using a hybrid model of online and in person.

Catalyst

Free and fully funded by the Church of England, Catalyst is a dynamic training course which aims equip, empower and resource those who work with children and young people in the local church.

It is for anyone who wants to be to serve the next generation and be a catalyst for change in their church and community.

Whether you are a new volunteer or a paid children and youth workers, this course is open to you, and will help you gain new knowledge and skills to lead children and young people.

Developed by Ridley Hall Theological College, it is delivered locally by the diocesan CYP advisers. Cohorts start in September and graduate in May.

Mental Health First Aid training

Rochester Diocese is delighted to offer FREE Mental Health First Aid training for anybody connected to Children and Young People, led by Lynne Parkinson.

This course would normally cost £300. You have to attend both days to receive your certification, which is accredited by MHFA England.
