Sidcup Christmas Tree Festival

For the second year running, St John’s in Sidcup held a very successful Christmas Tree Festival from 29 November to 1 December. The church was decorated with 36 trees sponsored by members of the congregation, the community, local schools and businesses. From the opening by the Mayor of Bexley on the Friday afternoon to the closing of the event by the local MP, James Brokenshire, on the Sunday afternoon, many visitors came to admire the trees. Visitors were able to enjoy refreshments, browse at our sales table, take part in the Christmas Hamper Raffle and bid for a signed Charlton FC shirt.

The event supported the Mayor’s two charities – Carers Support and Paediatric Diabetes (at Queen Mary’s Hospital) as well as raising funds for our church. Also, our aim was to open the church to the community – we feel this was achieved when looking at the number of visitors and involvement from local school choirs and Bird College. St John’s was happy to present a warm, friendly and relaxing atmosphere which was enjoyed by many.
