First public hearings of Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse

This week the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse has begun holding its first public hearings into the Church of England, focusing on the Diocese of Chichester as a case study.

The Anglican church in England and Wales is one of 13 investigations being looked at by IICSA, chaired by Professor Jay.

The Inquiry will look at themes including the experiences of victims and survivors and the Church’s response to them and the culture of the Church. The Church of England has submitted 25,000 documents and 38 witness statements to the Inquiry.

You can follow the hearings live and get regular updates on the Church of England’s twitter feed. Daily transcripts of the hearings are also available.

For further background reading a Q&A for parishes has also been produced.

If you are affected by anything you hear during the hearings, please contact our Diocesan Safeguarding team, or you can call the Inquiry Information line on: 0800 917 1000 - it's open weekdays 8am-8pm, Saturdays 10am-12pm. Calls are free and will not show on your bill.
