Two churches within the Diocese are set to receive almost £155K worth of funding between them as part of the Government and Historic England’s Heritage Culture Recovery Fund.

All Saints’ Church in Orpington has been awarded £57,000 to remedy problems causing water penetration around the windows.

At St Botolph’s Church in Northfleet the £97,000 grant means that repairs to the Chancel roof and south aisle buttresses, can take place, enabling them to further use the church building for community use.

Both churches are delighted:

“This money is a welcome move from the Government and Historic England which will allow All Saints’ Church to continue to be the centre of the community in Orpington, as it has been for the last 1,000 years.” said rhe Rev George Rogers, Vicar of All Saints'.

Rev Cyril Showers, Priest in Charge at St Botolph’s, and the PCC of Northfleet & Rosherville parish said: “Our thanks go to Sarah Anderson, Diocesan Advisory Committee (DAC) Secretary, and John Bailey, Architect at Thomas Ford & Partners, for all their guidance and support.”

Sarah Anderson said: “I am delighted for both churches. The DAC has moved quickly to sort out approvals for the repairs, to help the work be completed by the deadline of 31 March 2021, enabling both churches to be wind- and water-tight in the future.”
