Strategic Framework

There is so much to be thankful for in the work of the church right across the Diocese and wider – did you know that 15 million people alive today went to a Church of England school? But there are also lots of challenges and opportunities, such as a general fall in numbers attending church on Sundays. Across the Diocese, we want to make sure that we are using our resources, our talents and our energies in the best way to enable God’s work amongst us. We need to be wise and intentional in planning for the future.

Starting in the middle of 2016, we will be consulting as widely as possible across the Diocese to identify and agree our common heart, hopes, purposes and priorities. There will be many opportunities for parishes, staff, volunteers, groups and individuals to be involved in casting a vision for mission and ministry in the localities that comprise the Diocese. We hope and pray that the whole process will be inspiring as well as informative, and that through it we will better understand what is needed to support, liberate and enable local work.

There is no grand ‘master plan’ already written and waiting in the wings. The hopes and future plans for the church across the Diocese will need all of us to think, to speak, to pray, to hear and to listen to each other and to God. Please be prepared to get involved.
