An estimate of the numbers who either attend worship or receive communion on the ward suggests a total of more than 400 per week across the Diocese.

Worship may be taken to the patients, on a ward, where prayer or Holy Communion may be a natural conclusion to a visit by a chaplain or chaplaincy visitor. Informal acts of prayer and worship are often included in support groups.

Hospital chapel congregations are always ecumenical and some people may be worshipping for the first time. Others prefer to come silently to the chapel to reflect and draw spiritual strength, and may leave written requests for prayer.
