Who are
we?
We are a local, Anglican, diocesan group which seeks to further the aims of
the national movement ‘Affirming Catholicism’ (often affectionately
known as AffCath) which seeks to bring encouragement and hope to the Church
through education and dialogue. When the word ‘catholic’ is mentioned
many think of Roman Catholicism, but we are concerned with the catholic tradition
within the Anglican Church, and particularly with the insights to be found
within this tradition.
What
do we believe in?
Our understanding of the word ‘catholic’ is that it means ‘universal’
and therefore, by implication, is inclusive. Within this understanding it
is right that both clergy and lay people are involved in the Church’s
mission and that both men and women are included in the Church’s threefold
ministry of bishop, priest and deacon.
National
Affirming Catholicism
The national organisation is based at St Matthew's House, Westminster and
the Secretary is Lisa Martell (telephone 020 7222 5166). It has a separate
membership, holds conferences and publishes literature. Further details can
be found on their website.
